Evaluation Question Four: How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Research, Planning and Evaluation Stages:

In my Prezi I forgot to mention the technology IShowU- IShowU was used in research and planning, I used this software to show the progress I have made over certain parts of the year and what I have learnt. The podcasts I created were then placed on blogger. This software has played a big part in my evaluation as I have talked through my questions rather than writing big essays.

Construction Stages:

Evaluation Question Three: What have learned from your audience feedback?

What have learned from your audience feedback?

My audience feedback helped me in the following ways:

The first initial interviews- These are what my target audience expect to feature in a horror trailer which then helped me to develop further ideas in terms of the trailer I would be producing this year.

The questionnaires- I went into much more details here into the specific elements of the trailer and asked what they would expect in a horror trailers sound, mise en scene, editing and cinematography.

Social networking feedback- I posted photographs for my magazine and poster on facebook and twitter and asked people to tell me which photo would be the most appropriate to use. I also posted images of my magazine and poster after I created them and asked for feedback which helped me to develop certain areas.

Proposals- After coming up with three different proposals I asked my teacher and the class which proposal they liked the best and would be the most effective, the most popular would be took to treatment.

Film and magazine name ideas- As a group we discussed and made up film names, as an individual I made up magazine names, all these were posted on social network sites in order to get a broader range of answers of which people liked the most.

Tagline ideas- After creating different ideas for taglines, I posted them on facebook in order to get feedback on the most effective.

Rough cut feedback- This was where we showed the class our rough cut trailer and we would receive feedback on what the strengths were, if they could recognise the genre and narrative and advice on areas of development.

Vox Pop- As part of my evaluation question two, I did vox pops with some of my classmates, this feedback reassured me as it verified that my three products: film magazine, poster and trailer were having the effect on the audience that I wanted. They portrayed the correct genre and all linked together effectively.

Teacher Feedback- Helped to give advice on sticking to the conventions of a magazine, poster and trailer.

Evaluation Question Two: How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks?

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks?

I discuss how the main product of the trailer and the ancillary tasks of the poster magazine work in communion and how it is possible to tell they are advertising the same product - the film 'Stalk-Her'.

Good vs Bad: There is a clear contrast shown in my trailer of which character is the villain and which is the victim however in my magazine and poster the images are just of Jess so I tried to portray her as the victim and as the good character through her looking bruised and vulnerable.

Representation: The representation of the stalker is maintained as sinister and creepy throughout the trailer through the use of the prop of the mask, this helped to distinguish the villain from other characters in the narrative. The character Jess is portrayed as being vulnerable and weak through all three products as in the magazine she is bruised and has cuts, in the trailer she is always scared and running away, and in the poster she look afraid with her eyes narrowed and mouth open.

Colour and Lighting: I have used the three colour rule and kept the magazine and poster the same colours of red, white and black to promote the same product of the film 'STALK-HER' and portray the horror genre.

Location: I have used the location of the park in my poster within the trees this links with the location of the woods in the trailer as they produce a similar look and sinister feel.

Text: The text throughout all three products remains similar with the same text 'Veteran Typewriter' being used for the film name 'STALK-HER'. The text remains the same colours of red, black, white and grey through all the magazine, poster and trailer.

Vox Pops-

I got very positive feedback that assured me that the combination of my main task and ancillary tasks link together effectively. She comments that the products link together through the colour scheme and same imagery portrayed of the girl character as looking vulnerable.

This audience member makes the comment "You can definitely tell it's a horror film" so the genre is being portrayed correctly through all three products. This reassures me that I made the right decisions in the creation of my magazine, poster and trailer.

This audience member mentions how striking the colour red is and that it is a prominent element that stands out which is used in all three of the products.

Evaluation Question One: In what ways does your media products use, develop and challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Research and Planning: Updated Magazine

Research and Planning: Film Trailer

Research and Planning: Todays Progress

Today, I have created the distribution company logo so that we can include it within our film trailer and my film poster.

I have looked at the audience feedback I received on facebook and twitter for my poster and changed certain elements for example I made sure both the title and tag line were the same colour red, I made the eye bigger, changed the SteelTongs font to a shade of grey so it doesn't draw attention away from other areas.

Research and Planning: More Footage

This is some more unedited footage that me and Alice filmed, these were some shots that we needed to get to add into our montage scene in the trailer.

Research and Planning: Poster Update

Today I did some adjustments on my film poster, I used the smudge tool on photoshop to smudge the black around the eye, I think it creates a wispy creepy look to the inner eye and adds more emphasis on the reflection of the victim in the eye.

Research and Planning: Magazine Update

I have added storylines, price, banner etc to my film magazine, this has filled up the spaces where it looked bare before. I am not happy with the overall look of the cover yet so I will be making adjustments to improve the look and spacing of it all.

Research and Planning: Filming

Today 18/02/13 me and Alice filmed the rest of our footage for the trailer, we did the last minute shots we needed to add to the trailer to improve it. Tomorrow we will be going in college to edit this in and finish the sound so that our trailer is our overall product is made.

Research and Planning: Audience Feedback

After showing our film trailer, posters and magazines to our class we received feedback on things we could do individually to improve our work. For our group trailer it was suggested that we show the female character as being more vulnerable and to break the trailer up with more captions, this is something we have taken into consideration, we will edit the footage so that the shots are shorter and look more like a trailer.

Research and Planning: Sound Research and Replication

Today me and Alice went around college and found ways we could create sound for our film trailer, this video shows the different ways we did this.

Research and Planning: Unedited Footage

This is some more footage that me and Alice have taken to put into our current trailer, these will be used as fast shots that will flash up in the trailer to pick up suspense.

Research and Planning: Poster Update

These are some of the tools that were used when cutting out the picture and fitting it into the eye to make it look like it has the shape of an eye and look like a reflection.

These are my poster updates where I have added new things for example my film tag line 'WHO LURKS BEHIND YOUR SHADOW'.

Research and Planning: Editing and Trailer Research

As I have watched our current trailer I began to realise it is more like a short film, so I have spoken to Alice about the ways we can change it. I thought it was important for me to grasp the genre of my trailer again and understand what reaction I want from the audience and the ways to create it. One of the ways we will make our trailer more like a trailer is to put in a montage which is a series of short shots shown in a small amount of time.

Therefore I researched into trailers and what they should do, horror films and what they should do and finally montages and what they aim to achieve.

Research and Planning: Meeting

Me and Alice have had a chat about filming, when we need to do it by and when we are available to do it. We have came up with a schedule of when we will film, when we will edit due to Bethan being away in Australia, when we will add sound too. All this should be done for next Tuesday so we can present a finished product and trailer.

Research and Planning: Film Magazine Story Inspiration

I have researched film magazines, in this case I specifically looked at Empire and Total Film. I wanted to see what type of stories they used, how they worded them and presented them. It seems like they use a word or couple of word to draw the audiences attention e.g. 'OSCARS SPECIAL!' the exclamation mark makes it seem importance so we are drawn to it and then look underneath and see big star names this would encourage the audience to purchase the magazine and read the stories inside. The cover is the biggest selling point in terms of the stories used, if they sound boring no one will be interested so it is important to make them interesting and attention grabbing.

Research and Planning: Trailer Change

After watching our groups trailer again I have realised that it appears to tell a short story rather than teases the audience as a trailer. They seem to get a lot more of the story told through our footage therefore me and Alice have sat down and decided the changes we need to make in order to improve our trailer. We have come up with a shot list that we will do to create a montage at the end of the trailer to quicken the speed and reinforce the horror genre of the trailer.

The shots we have decided to take are :
- Jess being bundled in the car
-Blood dripping from a knife (makes what happens ambiguous)
-Jess screaming
-Jess running
-A mysterious text message or letter
- Jess trying to phone for help and no answer
-Jess hidden in a cupboard or going into the cupboard
-Point of view shot of her breathing in the cupboard and somebody approaching

I think the montage should end on the cupboard and when the door opens it should either be ending with a bright light over taking the screen or a dark black taking over the screen, the film name will then appear and fade out.

Research and Planning: Poster Photo Research

I have posted my top three photos on facebook to see which my audience prefer and think is most effective.

I also posted the same photos on twitter to get a broader range of answers, these answers will help me pick which one I will use for my poster.
