Research and Planning: Storyboard Pictures

All the storyboard pictures have been drawn for my group's film trailer, this will be the rough sequence and shots of what will happen in the trailer. After drawing these pictures we have taken pictures and uploaded them to the computer where my group and I will produce an animated storyboard. 

Research and Planning: Sound Conventions in a Horror Film

Sound plays a major key role in films and can change the effectiveness of the overall film f used correctly and in the right places. Horror films specifically feature scenes that aim to startle and shock the audience and one way that lends to this is the use of sound, without the sound the scene may not be as effective and not fulfil its intended aim. Horror sound tends to be diegetic to make the film more realistic and believable to the audience in order for them to relate to the film and its characters. The use of sounds we may hear regularly such as banging doors, screaming and footsteps are put in a different context and therefore become scary and make you alert. Normal sounds put into a different context receive a different reaction.

Research and Planning: Film I Watched

This week was halloween which is a time where horror films are being watched around the world, so I joined the trend and watched 'The Uninvited' which had a really good storyline as well as scary elements that encouraged the appearance of the pillow. After watching the film I went on the IMDb site  to see what the films certificate was and the rating the audience gave it. Comparing the horror and killings within this film with what my film trailer will contain has given be a better idea of what my film certificate should be, I have decided that my film certificate will also be a 15 as it will be scary but not  include extreme bloodshed, gruesome images etc. My trailer will be scary due to the storyline which is where I feel this film 'The Uninvited' is strongest, I would say the storyline is scarier than the film. I think it important to consider how the thriller and psychological side can affect an audience more than horror images would. 

Research and Planning: Montage Examples

Today I have decided to do some research on montages as my group who I'm working with on creating a film trailer have decided to put a montage in our trailer. Therefore I think it would be a good idea to look at other trailers and see how they piece together their montages as they could give me inspiration and further my understanding.

The process or technique of selecting, editing, and piecing together separate sections of film to form a continuous whole. A sequence of film resulting from this. The first trailer I looked at was New Moon, the montage starts around 1:49 I liked this montage as it wasn't too fast but the straight cuts did speed up the trailer. They showed a mixture of action sequences which builds suspense and keeps the audience guessing what happens next but also some emotional shots of the couple, therefore there is a mixture of scenes which makes the film look more appealing and diverse.

Research and Planning: Film Poster Analysis Three

This medium shot shows two characters and the way they are interacting with each other. These could be the two protagonists of the film, as something they do, may have consequences. The genre of the film is shown through the poster as it is tinted blue which creates an eerie/ cold atmosphere this contrasts with the bright red colour shown which could suggest danger, lust and blood shed therefore showing it to be horror/thriller. The two characters seem to be lovers however there is more to the narrative than that which is shown through the rip tearing the two characters apart. The tag line in the tear 'On the other side of drinks, dinner and a one night stand, lies a terrifying love story.' suggests that they aren't actually together, one could potentially like the other more than we know and then get jealous as the one night stand is over and they no longer want you. The mise en scene show the characters in two very different outfits, the male is presented in a white long sleeved shirt which could show him to be innocent whereas the female is in black which could suggest that she is the villain in the piece. She is wearing a lacy low cut top which may suggest that she is trying to seduce the man, this leads to the audience who I think would be both male and female aged 20 to 40 years old as it seems to tackle a more complex subject. Women could relate to this female character whereas men would objectify her. I think the woman is negatively represented in this poster due to the nature of her clothing compared to his, the ring on the mans finger suggests he is married but not to this character and therefore she is guilty of leading him astray and wanting a relationship with a married man. The film title is shown in two different fonts and colours, the word 'fatal' is in a italic red font which could be seen as female writing thus suggesting that the female character in this poster is the fatal person in the film whereas the word 'attraction' is in a bold grey font which is quite manly suggesting the male is the attraction in the film. I can tell this is a film poster as it shows the cast and crew information using steeltongs, production company logo, film title. 

Research and Planning: Film Poster Analysis Two

The close up shot shows the protagonist of the film, and this shows that she is scared of something however the mise en scene prop and facial expressions contrast as a tiara would suggest a happy event however her facial expressions clearly shows she is not happy and is in trouble. The image is tinged with a blue tone and the character is screaming which hints that the genre of the film is horror and that something bad is going to happen to her. The narrative of the film is shown through the image and the film title, 'Prom Night' is a night that every young girl dreams of however for this character her prom night is more of a nightmare, the red letters suggest danger, lust and blood; these three could be potential themes of the film. It is obvious that this is a film poster through the use of production company logos, film title and tag line, date/season the film is coming out. The female character isn't pulling the most attractive face however the white teeth and perfect make up shows that the character could be objectified in the film therefore I think the audience for this film is male and females aged 16 to 25 years old as it doesn't seem to be an intense horror film. The tagline 'A NIGHT TO DIE FOR' suggests that there will be deaths within the film and it could be a high school massacre, the font is typical of the horror genre.
